NEW YORK, Aug 21 (Reuters) - The U.S. dollar trimmed losses against the euro on Thursday after the U.S. Labor Department said initial jobless claims fell last week.
The euro <EUR=> slipped against the dollar to $1.4791 from $1.4805 before the data. Against the yen <JPY=>, the dollar rose to 108.38 from 108.25 previously.
Initial jobless claims fell last week to 432,000. Markets were expecting a fall in weekly jobless claims to 443,000. For details see [ID:nN20401484].
"The numbers were still above 400,000, close to expectations. Continuing claims were better than expected and that will probably get most of the attention," said David Watt, senior currency strategist, RBC Capital Markets in Toronto.
