TOKYO, Aug 22 (Reuters) - The Nikkei average fell 0.2 percent on Friday, led lower by exporters such as Advantest Corp (6857.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) on a stronger yen, which reduces the value of their overseas earnings.

By 0001 GMT, the benchmark Nikkei .N225 shed 24.84 points to 12,727.37, after logging its lowest close in nearly five months on Thursday.

The broader Topix .TOPX dipped 0.1 percent to 1,222.99. (Reporting by Aiko Hayashi)
