UPDATE 2-Deals of the day -- mergers and acquisitions

May 9 (Reuters) - The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals involving European, U.S. and Asian companies were reported by 2000 GMT on Friday.

** Copper miner Kazakhmys (KAZ.L: Quote, Profile, Research) said it rejected a 7.05 billion pounds ($13.8 billion) approach from Kazakh mining group Eurasian Natural Resources Corp (ENRC.L: Quote, Profile, Research), which has a May 16 deadline to make an offer. [nL09914343]

** 3M Co (MMM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said it would acquire Quest Technologies Inc. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. [nWNAS3353]

** Private equity firm Carlyle Group [CYL.UL] said it would take over Greek chemical firm Neochimiki NHCr.AT for 19 euros ($29.37) a share and help the company expand internationally. [nL09892932]

** Carlyle Group will lead a 58.1 billion yen ($560 million) management buyout of an LCD glass venture jointly owned by Japan's Hoya Corp (7741.T: Quote, Profile, Research) and Nippon Sheet Glass (5202.T: Quote, Profile, Research), Hoya said. [nT230504]

** British supply chain company Wincanton Plc (WIN.L: Quote, Profile, Research) confirmed that it had approached logistics company TDG Plc (TDG.L: Quote, Profile, Research) about a possible cash offer. The indicative cash offer is at 281.25 pence per TDG share, or 290p when the dividend of 8.75p is included. [nWLB1333]

** Akzo Nobel NV (AKZO.AS: Quote, Profile, Research), the world's biggest paint company, said its pulp and paper chemicals business, Eka Chemicals, is acquiring Levasil, the silica sol coating business of Germany's H.C. Starck Group.  Continued...
