Prysmian wins 140 mln euros Qatar contract
MILAN, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Italian cable maker Prysmian (PRY.MI: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) has won a 140 million euro ($200.2 million) contract in Qatar to develop a submarine cable turnkey project serving Doha, the company said in a statement on Monday.
Prysmian said the contract was awarded by Qatar General Electricity and Water Cooperation and it would develop the first ever high-voltage submarine power link in the country.
Prysmian said the project would involve engineering, marine and land surveys and procurement and cable construction, as well as commissioning services for submarine and underground power cables for a total of 63 km.
Installation will start in 2009 and is due to be completed at end-2010.
The new agreement follows a contract worth 168 million euros for a power transmission project in Qatar, announced in June.
