ATLANTA (Reuters) - U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Friday he had been unable to talk directly to Myanmar's military leaders despite efforts to do so after a cyclone that killed thousands.

"I have been trying to speak directly to the leadership of Myanmar. Regrettably I have not been able to contact them. I am still trying to talk with them as well as with leaders in neighboring countries," Ban told reporters during a visit to the Carter Center in Atlanta.

The international community has been frustrated by Myanmar's ruling military junta's delays allowing aid in nearly a week after Cyclone Nargis devastated the southeast Asian country.
