MEXICO CITY, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Mexico's America Movil, the largest cell phone operator in Latin America, said on Thursday it bought Nicaraguan telecommunications company Estesa Holding Corp.

In a statement filed with the Mexican stock exchange, America Movil said it acquired 100 percent of the company, which provides cable television and Internet service.

America Movil (AMXL.MX: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz)(AMX.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) did not say how much it paid for the company.

America Movil, owned by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, operates in 16 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in the United States.

The company is battling Spain's Telefonica SA (TEF.MC: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) for dominance in Latin America. (Reporting by Jason Lange; Editing by Andre Grenon)
