BIS-U.S. mortgage moves could lead to moral hazard-Poland
BASEL, Sept 8 (Reuters) - U.S. moves to take control of mortgage firms Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could lead to moral hazard, Polish central bank governor said on Monday.
Polish National Bank President Slawomir Skrzypek also said the central bank was ready to act on the domestic finanial system if necessary.
Washington launched what could be the U.S. government's biggest federal bailout ever on Sunday in a bid to support the domestic housing market and ward off more global financial market turbulence.
"I have mixed feelings ... something between moral hazard and the importance of those banks in the American financial system and the probability of future potential failure," Skrzypek told reporters.
"Every single situation will be judged independently, we are ready to act if our financial system needed it."
He said Poland's economy, closely correlated with the euro zone, was slowing after posting robust growth earlier this year and inflation was expected to rise in September from a month before. (Reporting by Natsuko Waki, editing by Mike Peacock)
