Gates Foundation receives Berkshire stock gift
WASHINGTON, July 3 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) co-founder Bill Gates reported on Thursday that his foundation received 451,250 class B shares of Berkshire Hathaway (BRKb.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) on July 1.
He said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust received the shares as a gift from billionaire investor Warren Buffett, who is chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway.
Buffett has pledged most of his fortune to Gates's foundation, and has said his Berkshire shares will go to philanthropy. (Reporting by Karey Wutkowski, editing by Phil Berlowitz)
