LONDON, May 13 (Reuters) - European shares turned flat by mid-morning on Tuesday, with British stocks hit by higher-than-expected inflation data that could dent expectations for further rate cuts.

At 0849 GMT, the FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares was flat at 1,346.99 points, having earlier risen as high as 1,353.90 points.

Britain's FTSE 100 .FTSE was down 0.2 percent, underperforming German and French stocks, which were up 0.1-0.2 percent.
