Bernanke makes no comment on economy at conference open

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo., Aug 21 (Reuters) - U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke made no comment about the outlook for the economy or interest rates in brief opening remarks at a central bank conference on Thursday.

Bernanke is due to give a more extensive speech on Friday morning, during which he is expected to touch on financial market instability. (Reporting by Mark Felsenthal; Editing by Louise Heavens)
