BOGOTA, July 3 (Reuters) - Colombian exports shot up 34.3 percent in April versus the same month last year while the country's trade surplus narrowed to $164.3 million, the government said on Thursday.
The surplus in April 2007 was $173 million, according to a statement from the National Statistics Department.
The Andean country's economy has picked up momentum under President Alvaro Uribe, who won re-election in 2006 after cutting urban crime and spurring investment with his U.S.-backed crackdown on drug-running leftist rebels. (Reporting by Nelson Bocanegra; Editing by Diane Craft)
