 MARDIN, Turkey- A German team begins a one-month operation to
clear the mines on the Turkey-Syrian border.- 

MONDAY, JULY 7 HOKKAIDO, Japan- G8 Summit (to July 9). Japan will host a
meeting on African development on the sidelines of the G8
summit. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev plans to meet British
Prime Minister Gordon Brown on the sidelines of the summit. Link:

WEDNESDAY, JULY 9 HOKKAIDO, Japan- Final day of G8 Summit. Leaders from 16
countries including the Group of Eight (G8), China, India,

participate at the "The euro's 10th anniversary: History and

SATURDAY, JULY 12 PARIS ?- (TENTATIVE) Annual France-German summit - with leaders
from both countries.- 
 
 MUNICH, Germany- Goal4Africa, a new charity fundraising scheme
where soccer fans donate money for every goal scored, kicks off
with a charity match. Goal4Africa will run for two years until
the FIFA World Cup in 2010.
 
 SCHLESWIG, Germany- Horst Gorski, a senior cleric from Hamburg,
is standing for the post of bishop of Schleswig in northern
Germany against Gerhard Ulrich, a senior cleric from the
Schleswig area. Gorski is a widely respected theologan and he
helped set up a centre for gay and lesbian Lutheran pastors.
This election brings to Germany the question of gay clergy and
same-sex unions which has caused rifts in several countries and
faiths, including the Anglican community.
 SUNDAY, JULY 13 PARIS- Heads of State and Government of EU and Mediterranean
countries meet (to July 14). Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert
and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will attend.-
