NEW YORK (Reuters) - Kinross Gold Corp. (K.TO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) favors the La Coipa and Porcupine joint venture mines over Musselwhite, the company's chief executive said on Monday.
Kinross and Goldcorp (G.TO: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) own the La Coipa gold and silver mine in Chile, and two mines in Canada, Porcupine and Musselwhite.
Speaking at the Reuters Global Mining and Steel Summit in New York, Tye Burt said that Goldcorp and Kinross had not come to any decision on whether or how ownership will change at the three mines they own together.
"At some point we will have some more talks with Goldcorp," he said. "From a philosophical point ... we think we are good operators and we are looking to operate more of our own mines."
Burt said all three mines were solid but said he favored La Coipa and Porcupine.
